Looking for creative inspiration for your next event? Thinking about exhibiting but want to know more about the trade show before you commit? Want to know which expo will be your best bet for connecting with like-minded professionals?

Whatever you're interested in, we've got you covered. April is here, along with a superb selection of trade shows taking place around the world. A diverse range of industries are represented this month, including events in the automotive, seafood and technology sectors. Here are six of our favourites.

1. Mid-America Trucking Show, March 31 – April 2

No other trade show on the planet offers insight into the latest and greatest heavy-duty vehicles like the Mid-America Truck Show. Held annually at the Kentucky Expo Centre, the event comprises some 1,064 exhibitors spread across 1.2 million square feet of floor space.

The show came from humble beginnings, with the first event back in 1972 drawing a crowd of just 4,000. Today, more than 80,000 attendees from 74 countries descend upon the event to explore hundreds of custom-designed event spaces, learn more about new developments in the industry and connect with other professionals from around the globe.

2. World Retail Congress, April 12-14

Dubai, perhaps the greatest shopping paradise on the planet, is a fitting location for the 10th iteration of the World Retail Congress. Founded in 2007, the event is still in its infancy, yet has quickly cemented itself as one of the industry's must-attend shows.

This year's event is centred around a theme that is sure to resonate with businesses across every sector: Attracting and engaging the modern customer. Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a range of seminars hosted by a great selection of thought leaders including Tommy Hilfiger, principal designer of The Tommy Hilfiger Group; Bernie Brookes, CEO of Edcon Group; and Ira Kalish, chief global economist at Deloitte.

3. Hong Kong Electronics Fair, April 13-16

Hong Kong's electronics industry exported a whopping HK$2.3 trillion of merchandise last year, making it the country's number one export earner. With these sort of figures setting the scene, perhaps it isn't too surprising that the Hong Kong Electronics Fair draws around 2,800 exhibitors, making it the largest event of its kind in all of Asia.

Robotics and other unmanned technology will be a strong focal point of this year's show, as will smart home automation, 3D printing and healthcare electronics. A plethora of tech-heavy exhibition stands await those are lucky enough to attend this notable event.

4. Hannover Messe, April 25-29

Touted as the greatest trade fair of its kind in the world, Hannover Messe is the ultimate destination for anyone operating in the industrial sphere. In 2015, as many as 220,000 people attended the show, with almost a third of these consisting of international visitors.

This year's event promises to be a similarly impressive affair, with attendees having the chance to connect with their industry peers and learn more about the different elements impacting the industrial sector, including:

  • Digital factories
  • Energy efficiency
  • Industrial automation
  • Supply chains
  • Research and technology

Event organisers have also released a pretty nifty app designed to streamline visitors' experience. It allows users to create customised itineraries based on their interests and notifies them in advance when relevant events are taking place.

5. Beijing International Automobile Exhibition, April 25 – May 4

The Beijing International Automobile Exhibition drew 780,000 visitors in 2012.

When you think of the home of automotive engineering, you might conjure up images of Germany, the US or Japan. China is looking to earn its place alongside these titans of industry, and events such as the Beijing International Automobile Exhibition are undoubtedly playing a key role in the cause.

As the most important motor show in the country, the magnitude of the event cannot be overstated. According to Expo Check, an incredible 780,000 visitors attended the event in 2012, and around 2,500 exhibitors came to showcase their products and services in some beautiful exhibition spaces.

This year, as GT Spirit noted, attendees can expect world premieres from all the biggest marques, including BMW, Audi, Bentley, Porsche and more.

6. Seafood Expo Global, April 26-28

Held at the beautiful Brussels Expo, the Seafood Expo is the number one event in the world for seafood buyers and other professionals involved in the trade. Visitors will have the opportunity to gain valuable insight into new industry trends as well as explore a huge selection of offerings from 1,700 exhibitors from more than 75 countries.

Some of the products and services you'll find at the expo include:

  • Fresh, frozen, value-added and processed seafood
  • Logistical solutions
  • Service providers
  • Process and packaging equipment

The event also provides exhibitors with a strong platform from which they can engage new prospects. More than 25,000 buyers, suppliers and media professionals from 144 countries around the world attend the event, giving companies the rare opportunity to expose their products to markets they would otherwise have difficulty penetrating.

The event culminates in the Seafood Excellence Global Awards Reception, an annual competition that recognises the very best seafood products of the year.
